Fun fact- there are almost as many websites willing to provide tips and ideas for posting as there are actual blogs. Some are geared at specific audiences- i.e. fitness, travel, corporate, etc. – and some attempt to offer tips and tricks for any and all blog types. Many offer at least some information for free while some keep much of their content behind a paywall.
But there is one blog idea that I think you can find in virtually all of these sites- and that is “A day in the life” post. I never considered using the idea because my life is not all that exciting. But, there has to be a reason why literally everyone suggests it.
So, here we are. An average day in the life of me.
6:30am. My alarm goes off. I am one of the last few people on Earth who still uses an actual alarm clock and not the clock on my phone. That might be a sign that I’m old, but guess what? I AM old. Often one or more of the cats is in bed with me and I pet them while playing around on my phone. I play Wordle pretty often.
6:55am I actually get out of bed. First stop is the bathroom for obvious reasons including washing my face and brushing my teeth. Then I try to figure out what to wear- perhaps by asking one of my cats what they think. Then I get my hair and face in order and grab a protein shake.
7:20am I leave the house, protein shake and bottle of pop in head. I usually listen to podcasts or the Bon Jovi channel on Sirius XM on my way to work
8am Arrive at work. I’m an inside sales rep for a small manufacturing company. My work day consists mostly of sending and receiving emails but I do spend a fair amount of time on the phone too. There is often a meeting or two thrown in too.
11:30am Lunch time. I usually do leave the office because I’ve found it improves my mental health. I mix it up with going to a variety of local fast/ fast casual places to eat. Most days I do try to eat semi-healthy, but at least once a week I say “screw it” and just eat whatever I want, no matter how bad it is for me.
12:30pm. Back to work. Fewer meetings, but otherwise very similar to the morning. More emails, more phone calls. Maybe a little more conversation with my coworkers.
5pm. I leave the office and head home. Again it’s mix of podcasts and music, mixed in with the occasional phone call. Especially since my mother dislocated her shoulder last winter I like to call her and see how she’s doing at least once a week.
5:45pm. Get home. Yes, it usually takes me longer to get home than to go to work. Make of that what you will. Two or three of the cats usually greet me at the door and I usually talk to them and tell them how much I love them. Often in funny voices. Assuming it’s a night when my husband and I are both home by this time or shortly after, a discussion has already taken place on if we are eating supper at home or going out.
6pm If we going out we head out. If we are staying in I will do a little housework- think a little vacuuming, tidying up, washing dishes, etc. I may also start working on supper based on what time we want to eat it. And yes I do make supper most of the time, but Pat does sometimes too. I mostly make things that can be done in the oven. Baked pork chops or chicken, frozen lasagna, pasta, etc. During warm months Pat may grill out.
7pm Dinner time.
7:30am. TV time. Thanks to the wonderful invention of the DVR, we almost never watch anything live. We have several shows we both enjoy including The Rookie and 9-1-1 (both police shows), Food Network competition shows, and some game shows. We might also watch YouTube videos on anything from professional eaters to British drain workers (yes really) to animals to technology. We are often chatting with other people online or chatting with each other while the TV is on. There are usually one or more cats close by – often on our laps- during this time too.
9pm I go downstairs and bring up a yoga video. This is the only time I close a door to keep the cats away. My balance/ concentration/ focus on my breathing is not enhanced by a small furry creature jumping on my back or chewing on my hair.
9:30pm Shower time! I cannot stress enough the upsides and joy of showering at night. It’s relaxing and it’s a huge part of my “getting ready for bed” routine.
9:45pm I head to my bed. I read and/ or play around on my phone. Alas, I read a lot of murder mysteries, so they are not the best thing to calm my down for sleep, but I read what I like.
10:30pm. I turn off the light, put on my CPAP, and close my eyes. I doze off and get ready to do it all over again tomorrow.
