I have been on a journey to reduce the amount of waste in my bath products. I use shampoo and conditioner bars. I switched from disposable razors to refillable ones. I’m trying different kinds of bar soap – that’s still a work in progress.
While spending a TON of time online looking at all kinds of soaps I have stumbled into debate into the ingredients in personal care products. I take it with a grain of salt, because a lot of the same people screaming about all the supposedly terrible ingredients in body wash are the ones screaming about all the supposedly terrible impacts of aluminum salts in antiperspirants – which is utter bullshit.
As an aside- I have a theory about the “your body needs time to detox” crap they spew about how it takes your body 2 weeks to adjust to aluminum free deodorant products. I suspect that after two weeks you get used to your own stink and you don’t realize how bad you reek anymore. The actual product still isn’t working but you just lose the ability to tell.
But getting back to the topic at hand, it is really hard to figure out what ingredients that might be truly worth avoiding and those that get bad raps without merit. This entire journey is kind of a side quest anyway- I started out just wanting to reduce the amount of plastic I’m throwing away. And never mind that I’m apparently more concerned about what I put ON my body vs. what I put In it.
Do you have any “better for you” and/ or lower waste brands that you swear by? Let me know!
